Church League Update

We are on the second half of our church league season, and the final event is fast approaching.  It will be held on Tuesday, September 7th at 5:30pm.  The event will be captain's choice, and teams will be paired by handicap.  Each team will consist of 8 players, with four on the front nine and four on the back nine.  The combined rounds will produce an 18-hole score.  Following the event, dinner and prizes will be served.  In order to compete in the event, you must play in at least 6 of the 12 church league weeks.  The signup will be posted soon in the clubhouse.

Golf Tip of the Month

Different lies can effect how you play your chip shot.  For a buried lie, you will usually expect the ball to come out low.  You need a club with more loft, and a steep angle of approach.  Place your weight on your front leg, keep your hands well in front of the ball, and strike down.  These shots require a lot of imagination and experience.

Fluffy lies are easier, but you have to be careful.  You want to strike up on the ball to keep the club from sliding underneath.  Use a lower lofted club to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

In all cases, practice will help you more than any golf tip.  An hour a week on the chipping green will help to develop feel and control.

Patriot Golf Day

This year we will be participating in Patriot Golf Day on Labor Day Weekend.  A portion of money raised over the course of the weekend will go to support the Folds of Honor Foundation, a chairty organization that provides post-secondary educational scholarships to the spouses and children of service members who are disabled or killed as a result of their military service to our great nation.

We will be running several specials and contests to raise money for this worthy cause.  We ask all those who are able to come out and support our servicemen on September 4th - 6th.

Ladies

The CCLGA had a very busy July.  We had good turnout every Wednesday, even with temperatures over 90 degrees.  Ladies' Guest Day was a success.  We had an excellent choice of breakfast foods before playing, and a great lunch following golf.

The Clear Creek Ladies will be playing in several area golf tournaments in August.  We are especially looking forward to the Pro-Lady Tournament at Bristol Country Club on August 26th.  Four teams from Clear Creek will be competing with Casey, Adam, and Luther as our Professional Partners.

Ladies are busy preparing for our upcoming Ladies' Partner Invitational Tournament to be held on Wednesday, September 8th.  If you are interested in playing, call the clubhouse for more information.

There has been discussion concerning the formation of a 9-hole ladies' league for those who prefer a shorter round.  This group would tee off just before the regular group on Wednesdays.  If you are interested in joining this group, please call the clubhouse to have your name put on the list.  If there is enough participation, we will try to start this league by the end of August.
