Golf Tip of the Month
While You're On The Green
The green is a much different place
than the rest of the golf course. The rules reflect this in
many ways. Here are a few things to remember:
1) You may repair ball marks only.
Any other damage or spike marks may not be fixed if it assists the
line of play.
2) Loose impediments may be removed
from your line, provided you do not press anything down. You
may use a towel to do this. The putting green is the only
place on the golf course where sand is considered a loose
impediment.
3) You may mark your ball with just
about anything. A tee, coin, loose impediment, or even the toe
of your putter. The mark may be placed on any side of the
ball, but it must be in very close proximity to where the ball came
to rest.
4) You must putt with both feet on
the same side of the ball. You may not straddle it, or else
you will receive a two-stroke penalty.
5) If your ball comes to rest on the
lip of the hole, you are allowed a "reasonable amount of time" to
reach the ball, and an additional ten seconds to see if it will
fall. If the ball falls in after this period of time, you will
have to add one stroke to your score.
