The First Tee
2009 Season

Players have completed
the first four weeks of The First Tee program, and have learned such
core values as sportsmanship, honesty, and courtesy. Their golf
skills have been challenged on the course, and their life skills have
improved off the course. June 30th is an off-week, with the
program resuming on July 7th.

Ladies
The Ladies' Golf
Association had a very busy June. Many members participated in
area tournaments, but the month was highlighted by King for a Day.
The alternate-shot format produced another exciting competition, which
was won by Stephen Gillen and Joyce Delauder with a round of 71.
The ladies are now making
preparations for Guest Day on July 30th. Ladies of all ages and
abilities are invited to play. Tee-off will be at 9:30 with lunch
served after. To sign up, call the clubhouse no later than July
22nd. |

Golf Tip of the Month
Weight shift is a critical component
of any good golf swing. Transferring your weight through the
shot imparts extra energy into the ball, enabling you to gain
distance.
Imagine trying to throw a baseball
while falling backwards. You wouldn't get as much speed on the
ball as if you put your weight into it. The same is true for
golf.
A good weight shift starts with a
complete transfer to the right leg on the backswing. This
occurs by flexing the left knee toward the right knee with a hip
turn of 45 degrees away from the target line.

As you shift your weight forward on
the downswing, all of your weight should be on your
left leg just before the ball is struck. The right heels lifts
off the ground and you should finish in a position facing the target
with your left foot flat and your right toe touching the ground to
maintain balance. |
