Golf Tip of the Month
Frost Delays
This is the time of year for frost, and
frost delays. Many golfers don't understand the purpose
for the delay. It all centers around the health of the
grass.
We live in what is called the "Transition
Zone". This is the area between the cold north and
the hot
south. Our grasses must be adaptable to both climates, but
they are still vulnerable to frost.
When the evening dew settles and freezes at
night, it creates frost, which literally freezes the cells on
the blades of grass.
If you then stand on or drive over the grass, the blades will break,
causing dark imprints like the one shown below.

During your next frost delay, remember to
be patient and let the course thaw in order to keep it in great
condition.

Assistant Professional
The CCLGA is
officially over for the 2010 season, but ladies are still welcome to
play on Wednesdays if the weather is nice.
The Ladies'
Club Championship was held on October 6th. Congratulations to Ina
Turner for winning Regular Club Medalist and to Betty Peirce for winning
Senior Club Medalist.
Half the
ladies failed to show up for the Beat-the-Ladies playoff match against
the Pros, so it has been rescheduled for November 17th. Casey,
Adam, and Luther have been gloating all week about how scared of them
the ladies are. We need everyone to show up that day to try to
teach them a lesson.
The Ladies
Association will meet at the clubhouse on December 8th for their annual
Christmas Party, presentation of championships and awards, and election
of 2011 officers.
Thank you to
all the Ladies who participated this year!
