Golf Tip of the Month
Variations of the Grip
Contrary to popular belief, the golf
grip is not a fundamental. There are endless combinations of
style and placement, and there is no single grip that will work for
everyone. Here are a few tips to help you find the right grip
style for you:
The Ten-Finger Grip is good for
beginners and people with small hands and/or short fingers. It
is similar to the grip you'd use on a baseball bat.
The Vardon Overlapping Grip is ideal
for better players with long fingers and plenty of strength.
The right pinky overlaps the left forefinger.
The Interlocking Grip is a common
alternative to the Overlapping grip. It makes the hands feel more
unified by interlocking the right pinky and left forefinger.

Determining which grip style is best for
you will take practice. Grip placement is a little bit easier to
figure out.
For a right-handed golfer, turning the
hands clockwise on the grip will help close the club face at impact,
promoting a draw/hook.

Turning the hands
counter-clockwise will promote a fade/slice.
Each hand can be adjusted individually to
produce the desired result, but be careful not to go too far. A
small adjustment is better than an extreme change.
