Golf Tip of the Month

Chip it close

Chip shots can make or break your round.  A bad day around the green usually results in a bad score.  Here are some tips to help you get the ball closer to the hole:

1) Play the ball back in your stance and set up with your hands in front of the ball.  You want a sharply descending angle on the strike, which will add spin and give you more control over the distance of the shot.

2) Set your wrists early and hold the angle.  You should begin breaking your wrists early in the backswing.  Once your wrists are set, do not release them!  Use your shoulders to bring the club through, not your wrists.

3) Keep everything still except for your shoulders.  Swaying or twisting will cause inconsistent ball striking.  A very small amount of lower body movement is acceptable, but try to keep it to a minimum.

4) Practice. Practice. Practice.

Aerification

We will be aerifying the greens at the end of September.  The front nine will be closed on the 28th, and the back nine will be closed on the 29th.

Ladies

The Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association competed in the 3rd annual Touring Cup held at The Crossings Golf Club.  The CCLGA team placed third in the low gross competition.

Plans are being finalized for the Ladies Invitational to be held at Clear Creek on September 9th.  The event is a two-person captain's choice format.  All ladies are invited to participate.  Entry forms can be picked up in the clubhouse, or call the Pro Shop to sign up.

The CCLGA Club Championship will be held on September 30th.  There will be awards for all three handicap divisions.  Ina Turner is the defending Club Champion and Betty Pierce is the defending Senior Club Champion.
