Patriot
Golf Weekend
This year we will
be participating in
Patriot Golf Day
over Labor Day Weekend. A portion of money raised over the
course of the weekend will go to support the
Folds of Honor
Foundation,
a charity organization that provides post-secondary educational
scholarships to the spouses and children of service members who
are disabled or killed as a result of their military service to
our great nation.
We will be running
several specials and contests to raise money for this worthy
cause. Also, those who are active or retired servicemen
will receive a discount on their round of golf.
We ask all those who are able to come out and
support our servicemen on
September 3rd -
6th.

Golf Tip of the Month
Dustin Johnson was
recently penalized for a misunderstanding of the rules, which
cost him the PGA Championship.
Local rules may be established
by the rules committee of any golf club. These rules must be in
accordance with USGA guidelines, but they are just as important as the
official rules of golf.
In this case, all waste areas
containing sand were deemed to be bunkers, even when the crowd stood in
them! It was listed on the top line of the tournament rules sheet,
which was given to each golfer. It was the responsibility of
Dustin Johnson to know the local rules in order to avoid penalty.
Additionally, the rule was
certainly in accordance with USGA rules. Though a tricky rule,
sand is only considered a loose impediment on the putting green, and
they had a right to declare waste areas containing sand as bunkers.
Grounding your club in a hazard while your ball is in that same hazard
is a two-stroke penalty.
Note: Sand found
anywhere on the golf course but the green may not be moved without
penalty, and this includes the fringe of the putting green.

Ladies
September 8th is the CCLGA
Invitational Golf Tournament. If you have not yet entered,
be sure to send in your entry form. Anyone who needs a playing
partner may call the clubhouse.
The Clear Creek ladies will
be going on their Fall Outing on September 15th. The Outing Committee is
working hard on this event.
The Beat the Pro
Tie-Breaker will be played on September 29th. The ladies won the first
round and the pros won the re-match. All ladies are working hard on
their game, smoothing out the rough edges. Casey, Adam, and Luther
better have their A games that day if they plan to beat the ladies.
Clear Creek ladies want to
thank Casey, Adam, and Luther for playing in the Pro-Ladies’ Golf
Tournament at Bristol Country Club on August 26th. Clear Creek had four
teams in the event, the most of any club. All of the ladies and pros had
a grand day of fun, laughter, and fellowship.
