Golf Tip Of The Month

Fairways In May
By Adam Dean, Assistant Professional

As the Bermuda grass exits dormancy, it's a good time to start thinking about driving accuracy.  While the fairways turn green, the rough grows taller and becomes a penalizing area of the golf course.

This month I had the privilege of attending a practice round at the Masters.  While the rough at Augusta is about as tall as our fairways, each player placed a high emphasis on accuracy instead of length.

One of the few similarities between Augusta National and Clear Creek is that ball placement is key to scoring well.  You cannot afford to get out of position, or you will pay for it.  The tour players were so conscious of this that most of them seemed to be swinging at 3/4 tempo.

How difficult is it to focus solely on accuracy with length being an after-thought?  This month, MYGame students are challenged to do exactly that.  Find the fairway - find it often - reap the rewards.

Ladies Golf Association

The Clear Creek Ladies' Golf Association is in full swing for the 2011 season. We were very pleased to only get rained out once in April. This is a large improvement over last year.

All of the ladies are very enthusiastic about the CCLGA activities that are planned this year and we have welcomed many new members to our organization. Any ladies who had damage done to their golf course on April 27th are welcome to come and play at Clear Creek until repairs are made.

The CCLGA has taken on the project of beautifying the cemetery near #9 green. This is an old family cemetery with most of the tombstones showing that the people died during the Civil War Era. If you have not seen this cemetery, it is worth your time to stop and look.

Beginning May 4th, the ladies' organization will be teeing off at 9:30am. A few activities planned for May are "Par Fours" and "Most Fairways." Ladies: no matter what your age or handicap, come out and join in on a day of laugher, fun, and fellowship.
