Golf Tip Of The Month

Speed is critical to Putting well
By Adam Dean, Assistant Professional

We often get caught up in trying to figure out the line of our next putt, but speed is much more critical for two reasons:

1) The speed of the putt changes the line.  A Faster-rolling ball will break less than a slower one.

2)  There is a proper speed for every putt which maximizes the chances of making it, and minimizes the chances for a three-putt.  Most teachers will agree that the ball should come to rest 12-18 inches past the hole.

One important factor to consider is that spike marks around the hole will come into play more if the ball is rolling too slowly.  Also, as daily rounds increase, the hole becomes slightly ridged around the edges as the weight of each golfer presses down the area around the hole.

This month's MYGame challenge is to reduce 3-putts by controlling our speed.  PGA Tour players all average less than one 3-putt per round.  Padraig Harrington led the tour in 2010 with only one 3-putt every four rounds.

Ladies Golf Association

The weather has not been very conducive for playing golf, however, the Clear Creek Ladies' Golf Association has hung in there and played as often as possible.

There are many activities planned for the month of June. All ladies are looking forward to King For A Day on June 8th. Ladies invite a gentleman friend to play in an alternate shot format. The top three teams receive awards and everyone enjoys a covered- dish lunch afterwards. We will also be having a Florida Scramble in June. Another fun day is Hate 'Em on June 22nd. For this activity, each player gets to pick their least favorite par 3, par 4 and par 5 on the course. They get to record par on those holes no matter what they actually score.

There are several ladies' tournaments scheduled for June and many of the Clear Creek ladies will be participating in those tournaments. We are already preparing for our invitational tournament which will be held in September. The ladies' association is also helping Clear Creek with the up-coming Breast Cancer tournament in October.

Any ladies who would like to join our organization are encouraged to call the clubhouse for information and come on out and join in the fun.
