Golf Tip Of The Month

Fear = Failure
By Adam Dean, Assistant Professional

There are many things in life that compare to a round of golf.  There are ups and downs, challenges and "gimmies."  Another great parallel is that fear causes timidity, and that leads to failure.

This most often manifests itself in deceleration.  Fear of knocking the ball past the hole causes us to slow down our approach, which leads to wayward shots of all kinds.

Fear sometimes changes our club selection, our aiming point, and our strategy.  Sometimes this is a good thing.  If the odds are not in your favor to attempt a risky shot, you are probably better off taking the safe route.  However, as we all know: "No Guts, No Glory."

Responding to failure is what separates great players from the Average Joe.  The ability to forget the past can determine your future.

Beyond swing thoughts and game concepts, the best advice is to stay in the moment and give it your best effort.  Forget about the outcome.  More often than not, a solid, fearless swing will turn out much better than a timid, paralyzing hack.  Just ask Charles Barkley, whose swing is a result of injuring a fan several years ago.

Ladies Golf Association

September was a very busy month for the CCLGA. Much time and effort was put in by all members for the September Annual Ladies' Invitational Tournament. However, the weather did not cooperate and the tournament had to be cancelled . This was the third year in a row that it decided to rain on tournament day. Hopefully, things run in threes and we will have pretty weather next year.

The Club Championship was held on September 28th. Congratulations to Sharon Dixon who won the Regular Medalist Award in a two-hole playoff against Ina Turner. Betty Pierce won the Senior Medalist Award this year. Way to go, girls!!!

The CCLGA season will end on the 26th of October. The challenge that day will be Halloween Black Widow. After playing, the ladies will have lunch, receive the awards for the 2011 season, and elect officers for the 2012 golf season.
