Golf Tip of the Month

How to Stop the Falloff
By Adam Dean, Assistant Professional

Have you ever noticed how much worse you play in the spring than during mid-summer?  If you want to curb the fall off, don't take the fall off.

It's true that practice becomes much more difficult in cold weather.  In addition to being unpleasant, cold temperatures force us to wear extra layers of clothing, which in turn restricts our swing.

So what can we do to stay in practice?  Many people just tough-it-out, but practicing indoors can be just as beneficial.

1) Short game is the most-affected area of your golf game when you fail to practice. In truth, practicing your putting on the carpet for 10 minutes each day can be better for you than practicing on a real green for 60 minutes each week.  This is also true for chipping, as long as you don't break anything.

2) Take some time to read golf books or watch the golf channel.  Becoming a student of the game will improve your scores simply by helping you to understanding how and why things work.

3) Exercise and flexibility become more important during the off-season.  Get a jump on the year by working out and improving your flexibility.

Utilize these suggestions and come up with some of your own to maintain your level of play throughout the year.

Ladies Golf Association

The Clear Creek Ladies' Golf Association finished up their 2011 season in October. They had a great turn-out with the Fall Outing on October 5th followed by a Florida Scramble on the 12th. The ladies were rained out on the 19th.

The final league day was on October 26th. Everyone enjoyed playing Team Halloween Black Widow Ball. According to the ladies, the majority of the players choked when they were playing the Black Widow Ball. The pressure got to them. After playing, ladies enjoyed having lunch in the clubhouse. Officers were elected for the 2012 Season and the Championship Awards and Yearly Awards were presented to the winners. Congratulations to Sharon Dixon for winning Regular Medalist and for Betty Pierce for winning Senior Medalist.

The CCLGA will continue to play on any pretty Wednesday during the winter. The next big event will be the annual Christmas Party on December 7th.

A big "THANK YOU!" to Casey Barnes, Adam Dean, and all of the Clear Creek staff for being so wonderful and accommodating to the ladies' league.
